There are many occasions when you might be photographed. Weddings, graduations, and events all give you the opportunity to steal the limelight and take some great pictures. Nothing makes you look better than a big smile, but you may be too self-conscious to show your teeth if you have cosmetic concerns. If you're worried about yellow or misshapen teeth, you can still get a picture-perfect smile. Here are a few cosmetic dentistry procedures that can help you:
1. Dental Veneers
Your front teeth are highly visible. Any chips or cracks will be readily apparent, which can be troublesome even if they aren't causing you pain. Fortunately, you can hide surface imperfections using dental veneers. Veneers are made from thin pieces of porcelain that a dentist expertly applies to the front of your teeth. You can choose the color of veneer that you want. If you're not getting a full set of veneers, you should choose a shade that closely matches your natural teeth. If you plan to have your teeth whitened, you should do that before getting veneers so your dentist can match your veneers to the lighter shade.
2. Teeth Whitening
Teeth gradually turn yellow as you age and as your enamel thins and exposes the more pigmented layer underneath. Teeth whitening artificially bleaches your enamel, restoring a more youthful color that will look great in photographs. Ask your dentist about teeth whitening at your next appointment. The treatments your dentist has available are stronger than anything you can purchase at the drugstore, and they will give you better results. Teeth whitening is quick and painless. You shouldn't experience any lasting side effects, but you may have temporary sensitivity for a few days following the treatment. You can combat this by using a toothpaste meant to reduce sensitivity.
3. Clear Aligners
If your teeth are crooked, your dentist may recommend braces to straighten them. However, braces are highly visible and may not look very good in pictures. Clear aligners are another option. They will straighten misaligned teeth just like braces will, but they're discreet and removable. You can easily remove your clear aligners before photo ops at events. It's important that you wear your clear aligners for at least 20 hours each day for best results. However, if you have a special event coming up, discuss it with your dentist. They will probably clear you to skip wearing your aligners for that day.
